Senate Farm Bill Misses the Mark for America’s Farmers
Today, the Senate Agriculture Committee released its 2026 Farm Bill text.
The bill avoids some of the most harmful provisions included in the House version, including the effort to overturn California’s Proposition 12 and other state protections.
But significant concerns remain.
The bill fails to adequately invest in local and regional food systems, further weakens key conservation programs, and includes pesticide provisions that could undermine protections for farmers and rural communities.
As Farm Action President Angela Huffman explains:
“Without the structural reforms needed to restore competition, rebuild local and regional food systems, and strengthen farmers’ position in the marketplace, Congress will continue treating the symptoms instead of the cause.”
“If lawmakers fail to address those underlying problems, farmers will be back in Washington asking for another bailout.”
Family farmers need more than short-term relief.
They need a farm economy that works for independent producers, not one that continues rewarding consolidation and market concentration.
