Brazilian food giant JBS S.A. said Wednesday its U.S.-based pork subsidiary has agreed to buy Cargill’s U.S.-based pork business for $1.45 billion. Included in the acquisition are two Midwest meat processing plants that together process 9.3 million hogs. The deal also includes five feed mills and four hog farms. JBS first entered the U.S. pork market with the acquisition of Swift & Company in 2007. In 2009, JBS bought Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., the second-largest poultry company in the U.S.
The DOJ sits on their hands while the monopoly of food business continues. The big get bigger; while the American farmer continues building his reputation of servitude to big money interest.
