Editor’s note: Some farmers in the nation’s heartland have begun pushing for “right to farm” measures to protect themselves against campaigns by animal welfare activists and opponents of genetically modified crops. Already, North Dakota and Indiana have adopted such measures. Missouri voters will decide on Aug. 5 whether to amend their state constitution so the right “to engage in farming and ranching practices shall be forever guaranteed.” Marshall Griffin of St Louis Public Radio reports.
