The federal government has dropped charges against Charles and Heather Maude, the young ranching couple facing 20 years in prison and $500,000 in fines over the placement of a fence built between 1910 and 1950.

Secretary Brooke Rollins of the Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed the news in a statement on X, calling what the couple has faced “political prosecution.”

This confirms a report in The Dakota Scout Monday evening.

Charles and Heather, along with their two children, will be traveling to D.C. to meet with Rollins at USDA headquarters on Wednesday.
