Why have beef prices increased?
The big meatpacker/retailer cartel has forced over half our ranchers out of business, losing nearly 10 million cows from our national herd, at a time beef demand has increased. What should we expect? Importing cheap below cost of production meat, while exporting the premium cuts, leaving U.S. consumers with less supply and higher prices doesn’t solve the problem. We must breakup the monopoly power!
As beef prices increase, consumers look to pork and chicken as a way to save. It’s important to recognize the same companies responsible for cow herd collapse and loss of cattle producers own the industrially produced poultry and pork sectors, which benefit greatly as consumers make the switch. The cartel is complaining about beef margins while cashing in on alternative meats.
