Family Farm Action Dethrones the King Amendment in the Farm Bill Protecting the Rights of Farmers & Rural Communities

Columbia Mo, Family Farm Action applauds Chairman Roberts, Ranking Member Stabenow, Chairman Conaway and Ranking Member Peterson for eliminating Steve King’s attack on state and local rights from the final text of the Farm Bill. This victory ensures that family farmers and rural communities continue to have a voice in the future of agriculture at the most local levels.

Missouri Farmer and Family Farm Action Board Member Wes Shoemyer praised the Conference Committee “I’m pleased that the Committee realized this would be a giveaway to multinational corporations that could not be forgiven by independent family farmers. It’s disappointing that Representative King Attacked our state and local rights, to begin with, but, I’m proud we were able to stand our ground and be heard by the Chairman and Ranking Members.”

Family Farm Action rallied to stop King’s Attack collecting thousands of petition signatures, building a coalition of over 100 farm and food organizations and brought farmers to Washington DC to ask Representative King directly to withdraw the terrible amendment. Family Farm Action Policy Director Jake Davis said “Fighting the influence of corporate agribusiness can be tough, but when we join together, we can win. Today’s victory gives us hope that a brighter future for rural communities is ahead.”
